Peak Performance Math Coach

Position Overview
The Peak Performance Math Coaches help incoming (freshman and transfer) students refresh their math skills to the point where students increase their math placement putting them more on-track for their chosen major. Math Coaches also help incoming students become familiar with resources at NAU and ease students' transition from orientation to move-in. 

Duties/Responsibilities 
  • Help incoming students gain competence in building mathematical skills using a Study Plan in a customized Pearson/MyMathTest course
  • Provide one-on-one tutoring in an online setting using Collaborate Ultra (BbLearn video chat)
  • Help students set and meet achievable weekly math topic goals to help them manage their summer
  • Attend weekly video conferences with your team of math coaches and Team Leader
  • Participate in observations, debriefs and continued training which are intended to improve your math coaching skills
  • Communicate any complications that may arise with program leadership
  • Provide consistent student outreach and contact through email, text and voice
  • Update weekly Student Tracking Sheets to assess real-time progress of students
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with incoming students

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a currently enrolled student at NAU. First-time Freshman are encouraged to apply
  • Must maintain a 3.0 cumulative G.P.A. or higher
  • Must have completed MAT 121 or MAT 125 with a B or higher
  • Must list a math instructor as a reference after being contacted for an interview
  • Must reside in the United States, have access to a computer and the internet, and be willing to work 15 - 25 hours per week from May 18 - August 14, 2020. Minimum requirement through August 7, 2020
  • Successful completion of 10-week training course (USC 208) that is held 5:30 - 7:30p on Wednesdays from February 19 - April 29, 2020

Preferred Qualifications
  • Federal Work-Study (FWS) Eligible students are encouraged to apply
  • Completed MAT 136 with a B or higher
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues with technology
  • List a reference from NAU math faculty after being contacted for an interview
