Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury Summer 2018 Intern

The Northern Arizona University – Phoenix Suns and Mercury Internship is designed to provide experience to one Northern Arizona University student in a professional sports organization. Associates will learn the business of sports first-hand from industry executives in an organization that strives to be the most successful and respected professional sports league in the world.

Department:  Rotate through different departments
Work/FLSA Status:  Part-time/Non-Exempt
Reports To: Marketing Partnerships

Primary (Essential) Duties 
Interns will be assigned to rotate through different departments for approximately 10-12 weeks. This will provide an opportunity to learn about how different departments play a role into the success of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury. Rotations typically will be for four weeks but may be extended to meet the needs of the business. Listed below are some of the departments that the intern may rotate into:
  • Community Relations: To provide excellent customer service through implementing community programs, donation requests and ticket programs.
  • Phoenix Mercury: To assist the department in various aspects including pre-game and post-game ticker promotions and events, distribute marking material to downtown businesses, manage online content, and attend Mercury events.
  • Ticket Sales and Service: To assist in all aspects of the Ticket Sales and Service department including sales training, event preparation and execution, database collection, etc.
  • Marketing: To assist the Marketing department to further develop college outreach programs and other marketing initiatives.
  • Game Presentation: Assist the Department with the implementation of all the team’s game presentations’ efforts on game nights.
  • Public Relations: To assist with the overall corporate communications of the team, providing valuable experience in brand promotion and the generation of media exposure. In addition to working with local media partners, the position will interact with various departments within the organization.
  • Human Resources: To provide administrative support for the HR team.
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Dependable and detail-oriented
  • Ability to take initiative, be self-motivated and work independently with limited supervision
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership skills
Experience/Education Requirements
  • Must be a current Northern Arizona University student with junior-level standing (at least 90 credits by the end of Spring 2018)
  • Must be graduating December 2018 or later
  • Must have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at the time of application
  • Open to all majors
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
  • Flexible schedule to include weekends, evenings, some holidays and some overtime to meet business needs
  • Available to work 20-25 hours per week
  • Must have housing in the Phoenix metro area for the duration of the internship (Housing will not be provided by Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury)
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds as needed
